May’s walk will start in the village of Larressore, which is well known for the manufacture of the famous Basque Makhila walking stick. A visit to the workshop to see the product can be taken after lunch if anyone is interested.
The walk covers a distance of 8.7 kms. over mixed terrain, tarmac, gravel and grass verges. Unfortunately there is a relatively long stretch of a kilometer alongside a quite busy road, so dogs will have to be on leads during this part of the walk.
During our two hours of rambling we will encounter some beautiful panoramic views, magnificent old Basque houses with well tended gardens and an ancient Roman bridge. The difference in altitude is around 180m, bit of up and down, but not exceptionally steep.
Lunch will be in the local village restaurant called Aldaburua. Menu du jour 13.00 p.p. wine & coffee included. An early morning coffee can be enjoyed at the same location before departing on our activity.
More details to be sent to those members signing up, nearer the time.
